On May 31st 2023 we held a Community Litter Pick Day to encourage residents to come out and help tidy up their local environment. We were thrilled to see so many people helping and amazed by the amount of rubbish which was collected.
Despite the area being quite overgrown the team filled over 20 bags with rubbish and pulled out all manner of large items including a burnt our disability scooter, a fridge, a shopping trolley and a huge amount of other debris which had been tipped onto the land.
We were delighted to have a visit from a number of local councillors, volunteers from Capita and the North of Tyne Mayor, Jamie Driscoll.
It was also an opportunity to talk about the current climate crisis and gather thoughts from people about what we could do locally to tackle this global crisis. We understand that this is a huge topic and many people feel overwhelmed and unable to make a change, we want to see how doing small things at a local level can bring about change. Tackling litter and fly-tipping is just part of the bigger picture.
